Write a Letter - to the Editor, to your Legislators Writing a letter is one of the most important things you can do to educate the public and let your elected officials know your stance on important issues. Politicians and legislators say one hand-written letter represents 30 people. One Letter to the Editor can be published in newspapers across the state. Letters do not need to be long - about 250 words, or 2-3 paragraphs, is enough. Letters should be clearly written, polite and to the point. Be sure to sign the letters and include your name and address. One strategy that works well when writing to legislators is to make a point in your letter, then ask a question. The legislator has an opportunity to respond to your concerns as well as answer your question. This establishes a dialogue which can become an opportunity for you to get more information to the legislator. Links to newspapers and television stations are
