The program will begin with a general introduction to types of wetlands and their values. A representative from DNR will give an overview of federal and state regulations pertaining to wetland protection and permitting processes for wetland development. A local authority in county, town and municipal planning and zoning will present a discussion of local and regional ordinances that pertain to wetlands.
The participants will learn hands-on skills to help protect wetlands in their areas, using actual case studies and development scenarios pertinent to this region. The program ends with a field trip led by local experts to observe impacts to wetlands in our area. Each participant will receive the informative "Citizen's Wetland Protection Handbook" developed by WWA, as well as other printed materials and resources.
The workshop is being co-sponsored by Madison Audubon Society, Friends of Pheasant Branch, Nine Springs Network and Madison Fishing Expo at this time. This is the sixth citizen training workshop coordinated by WWA around the state.
