EPA Wetlands Conference Coming
12/20/01

Are you interested in the ecology of Ephemeral Wetlands?  Ephemeral Wetlands are depressional wetlands that temporarily hold water in the spring and early summer or after heavy rains.  Periodically, these wetlands dry up, often in mid to late summer.

They are isolated without a permanent inlet or outlet, but may overflow in times of high water.  Ephemeral Wetlands are free of fish, which allows for the successful breeding of certain amphibians (like frogs) and invertebrates.

If you are interested in learning more about what you can do to protect this disappearing resource, plan to attend the upcoming Midwest Ephemeral Wetlands "A Vanishing Habitat" Conference, February 20-21, 2002 in Chicago, Illinois.  On February 22, a Workshop will be held at the EPA Region 5 office, focused on developing additional educational material.
