New Haven Town Board
and Residents Fight Back

For more details, contact Mary Jane Schmudlach.

The New Haven Town Board of Adams County on Monday, March 13 passed two resolutions to stop the The Perrier Group of America's push to take its water resources from their township.  The town hall was again packed to capacity with local residents and township landowners and not one person objected to the 1-year moratorium or the EIS resolution passed unanimously by its town board.

The Town of New Haven is clearly making a statement to The Perrier Group of America.  They do not like being pushed and they want the drilling to stop.

The second resolution - approved unanimously - opposes any large scale extraction of water for bottled drinking water at or near Big Springs or any other body of water that originates in or enters New Haven without a full Environmental Impact Statement and hydro-geological study that absolutely guarantees that such a well will have no negative impact on the water flow or water quality of the watershed in which it is located.

The following statement is provided by the
Friends of the Mecan and Savin' New Haven Groups:

We call upon the integrity, honesty and credibility of The Perrier Group of America to be the Friendly Community Corporation it claims it is to stop the drilling and honor the Will of the People and its Town Government and its authority to rule on what is best for its people and municipality at this time.

We call upon the integrity, honesty and credibility of The Perrier Group of America to back up its own words issued to all news media, our town officials by telephone, the Governor of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the People of Wisconsin and to the People of the United States on Feb. 25, 2000.

"Greenwich, Conn, February 25, 2000...The Perrier Group's search for a Midwest bottling site and spring water source is focused on Adams County and locations in Michigan and no longer includes Waushara County, the company today announced."

Word has come out of Madison that The Perrier Group of America is again interested in OTHER streams in Waushara County other than the Mecan Headwaters/Mecan River Watershed.

We again call upon the integrity, honesty and credibility of The Perrier Group of America to honor ITS words of Feb. 25 that "the bottling site and spring water source" NO LONGER INCLUDES WAUSHARA COUNTY.

To The Perrier Group of America - are you going back on your word?

The People of Wisconsin have made one thing clear, whether pro-Perrier or against Perrier, they are concerned about their water resources and they don't trust large foreign corporations or anyone that works secretly behind their backs and tries to shove things down their throats.

Stop the drilling immediately!
