The Wisconsin Association of Lakes
is seeking a creative professional to coordinate communications, fundraising,
and membership recruitment for the organization. This is a full-time, regular
position with a cafeteria benefit plan and salary in the low 30s. The ideal
candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in natural resources or a related field
and 3-5 years of experience in writing press materials, developing publications,
and implementing a fundraising plan. Good writing skills, Microsoft Access
proficiency, and an ability to handle multiple projects a must. Publication and

for Development and Communications Director

Lakes, Inc.
The Development and Communications Director of the Wisconsin Association of Lakes, Inc. (WAL) is responsible for carrying out the development and communications operations of WAL in accordance with the policies established by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. The Development and Communications Director reports to the Executive Director, works in close collaboration with the Development and Program committees of the Board of Directors and is expected to contribute programmatic vision and leadership. Responsibilities include:
A. General Responsibilities
1) Act as a WAL representative to resource agencies, environmental and conservation groups, legislators, legislative staff and others to support WAL’s projects, educational offerings and lake issues.
2) Exhibit a strong commitment to water stewardship and WAL’s Mission Statement.
3) Serve as standing staff member of the Board Development and Program committees.
4) Related duties as assigned.
B. Development – Membership and Fundraising
1) Build and sustain a diverse funding base for the organization’s mission and programs.
2) Support and expand membership and member services.
3) In coordination with the Executive Director, draft and implement annual and long-term development plans and strategies for member recruitment, member retention, major donor campaigns, special appeals and acquisition of grant funding.
4) Supervise part-time membership assistant.
C. Communications
1) Develop and implement a working marketing, publicity and outreach plan for WAL and statewide lake classification and protection efforts.
2) Evaluate existing programs, services, techniques, and procedures; and establish methods for installation of refined communications programs.
3) Direct the production of printed publications. Produce and distribute quarterly newsletters, fact sheets, reports, funding materials and other educational publications. Prepare layout of body copy, headlines, photographs and artwork.
4) Perform public relations duties such as identifying key media contacts, establishing relationships with the press, developing press packets, and writing action alerts, news releases and other articles.
5) Manage electronic communications including monthly e-lake letter, action alerts and Website.
