SAMPLE LETTER TO THE ARMY CORPS

TO: District Engineer

This EA should evaluate the environmental impact of funding the WisDOT's 20.5 million  dollar 2B road design, versus funding the less expensive, less destructive 2A road design, as described in the Draft EIS.

The WisDOT's 2B road design calls for elevating the entire roadbed above the 100 year flood level of the Kickapoo River.  This design feature involves the destruction of 13.26 acres of wetland, and is not related to the purpose of the project, which is "to bring the highway up to current design standards that generally follows the current alignment."

The 2A design is clearly fundable under the WRDA '96 legislation and fulfills the purpose of the project, with less negative impact to the environment.  The 2A design is the only reasonable design that should be funded by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Respectfully submitted,
