WSN Seeking Fox Valley
And Milwaukee Hubs
|
3/1/01
The Wisconsin Stewardship Network (WSN) is replacing two
regional “hubs,” one each in the Green Bay and Milwaukee areas, to join
the four currently in operation in Madison, Superior, Tomahawk, and Viroqua.
WSN hubs serve as local contacts for groups and individuals who are
looking for help with their environmental and conservation concerns.
Hubs help our network of environmental, sporting, and conservation groups
promote the value of communicating statewide on issues these communities
have in common.
Hubs also serve as the local eyes and ears of the network on the WSN’s
current roster of eight statewide priority issues, including:
-
Returning the WDNR to an independent, board-controlled agency,
-
Restoring the office of the Public Intervenor,
-
Opposing unsafe sulfide mining,
-
Adopting mercury reduction legislation,
-
Updating Wisconsin’s groundwater protection laws,
-
Supporting alternatives to the Arrowhead-Weston transmission line,
-
Protecting and enhancing the state’s shorelands/wetlands,
-
Regulating the growth and operation of factory farms.
It is preferable that hubs be existing conservation or environmental organizations,
though individuals who are members of local conservation or environmental
groups will be considered. Hub contracted services are projected
to demand about five hours per week.
