The Conservation Congress
Supports Restoration of the
Wisconsin Public Intervenor Office
At the 2000 Spring Hearings of the Conservation Congress, which were
held in each of the 72 Counties in Wisconsin, the following resolution
was passed by an overwhelming 87 percent of the 7,572 voters
present:
Resolution #59
“The Public Intervenors Office was created in 1967 to act to protect
the State's natural resources, through legal action when necessary, and
was effective in this role. It was abolished by legislative action
in 1995, and there is a need for continued action. Should the Office
of Public Intervenor be reinstated with all its powers as originally created
in 1967, and with sufficient financing to allow it to carry out those powers?”
Yes --- 6,591
No --- 981
In 2002, the Conservation Congress continued this pattern of support
with 5717 voting for its restoration and 376 opposing it.
