We have reason to believe that Governor McCallum may veto the splitting of the DNR, but he needs to hear from groups and individuals.  A letter from you now may be the most important 15 minutes you can spend this year to help ensure the future of integrated resource management in Wisconsin.

The sample letter below is for your guidance.  You can copy it into your word processor by highlighting the text with the cursor, then selecting copy from the edit menu above, and then choosing the paste feature in your word processor's edit menu.  Customize the letter to fit the date and your personal needs.

Honorable Scott McCallum

State Capitol

Madison, WI  53707

Dear Governor McCallum,

I understand you are still considering the wishes of the people in deciding whether to veto the DNR Forestry Department split provision in the state budget.  Please add my name [or the name of your group representing how many people] to those opposed to this split.

The merits of a far-ranging decision like creating a separate Forestry Department should be debated in the open with public input, not by a handful of individuals acting in secret.  That has not been the Wisconsin way.  It should not be your way.  I ask that you veto the Forestry Division split.

Wisconsin has many dedicated hunting, fishing, conservation, and environmental group members working with the DNR on local natural resource matters.  I am one of them.  The DNR’s national reputation for excellence has been earned as an integrated agency.  It works, and it deserves to be preserved.

Please veto the Forestry Department split in the budget before you.

Sincerely,
