Diary Farmer Objects to Local Paper's
Coverage of Factory Farm Moratorium
Meeting in Gilman.

9/99

(Matt Shafer's letter to the Pierce County Herald is in reaction to the article written by Bill Kirk about the informational meeting at the Gilman town hall.)

Bill -

How could you be so one-sided in the paper this week on factory farms.  Did BIG money get to you?  I thought that reporters are to give both sides on the story.  You gave more space to Doornicks and Tranyors who only talked about how "great they were".  The only people that will benefit from the factory farm are the Traynors and Doornicks.  This in not just my opinion, apparently  the 168 plus who signed the petition feel the same, we need to slow down and look into this.  Why are they in such a hurry?  Are new regulations to protect our ground
water coming and they want to get in now to avoid that, WHAT is the big hurry?

The rest of us should not suffer for a few people's greed and that is all it is - greed.  I milk cows for a living.  Why should my livlihood be wiped out for their greed?

The price of milk goes up then people like them add more cows till the price goes down.  The price stays down til they push enough of the smaller framer out of business.  To tighten the supply they do the same thing over.
