The American Transmission Company has begun a media barrage in northern Wisconsin touting the benefits of their  proposed 345,000 volt Duluth-to-Wausau transmission line.  In response, Save Our Unique Lands (SOUL) has been placing this ad in area media.

    Energy For Northern Wisconsin? “This company will have a strong incentive to increase the capability of the system, as this will increase the company’s revenue” (PSC Final Environmental Impact Statement)
“It’s up to us to make it a business” (Jose Delgado President of the ATC) “It’s (ATC) hoping to make money not only providing Wisconsin with power but also shuttling electricity from power generators in South Dakota to energy consumers in New York” (Christian Science Monitor February 20, 2001) 
    Fair market value? – Minnesota Power has offered one landowner a one-time payment of $38 per 100 ft of easement for the Arrowhead-Weston line. Minnesota Power “has demanded rent payments of as much as $12,000 a month "for a 100 ft. fiber optics easement on their property in Duluth."  (Sen. Bob Jaunch press release October 26,2001)
    LandImpact? – Arrowhead–Weston 345 kv line easement  requires 4500 acres over 220 miles.
Equivalent conventional power plant, 30 acres.

    Jobs? - Arrowhead-Weston 0 to 5 jobs over the length of the line vs conventional power plant providing 50 to 80 (permanent) jobs in Marathon County.(PSC Final Environmental Impact Statement)
