Two Rallies Announced
more on the transmission line controversy

In response to Minnesota Power and Wisconsin Public Service's proposed HUGE 345,000 volt transmission line (which would cross 250 miles of Northern Wisconsin and ultimately provide the sale of electricity to Chicago and the Crandon Mine) two rallies are being held.  You are invited to be there.  They are on Nov.9th and 13th.

The Nov. 9th Rally in Madison to Stop the Giant Transmission Line will be held at the Public Service Commission office at 610 North Whitney Way at 11AM.  No More Rubber Stamps from the PSC!!!!  We need a huge crowd.  All people who care about Northern Wisconsin should be there.  People should make some signs to bring along.  Then we will be heading to the Capitol at 12:30 to Wake Up Wisconsin !!  We will be meeting with legislators on the 4th floor in the GAR Room.  Media will be there.  For more information on the 345kv transmission line go to Wake Up Wisconsin.

The Nov. 13 rally is to highlight the connection between the Crandon Mine and the 345,000 volt line through farming and woodland country.  The Wolf Watershed Educational Project (WWEP) rally will be from 2 to 3 pm at the intersection of Highways 8 and 45/47 near Monico, about 12 miles west of Crandon.

The rally banners will alert local landowners about  the proposed construction of a 115 kv feeder transmission line  to the Crandon mine, which involves Right-Of-Way land  purchases and possibly condemnations. The Hwy. 8-45/47 intersection is on the proposed transmission line route and near the Venus substation that is key to the feeder line.

Representatives will speak from the interconnected movements that oppose the Crandon mine, oppose new high voltage transmission lines through Wisconsin/Minnesota, and oppose the Manitoba dams that would be the source for much of the project's electricity.  The November 13 WWEP rally will mark the expansion of the transmissionline opposition into northeastern Wisconsin.  For more information on the transmission line connection to the mine, see the Midwest Treaty Network web site.

Rally participants are asked to bring signs/banners, warm clothes and good shoes.  For more information, call Bill Ahrens.
