**** International Citizen's Conference ****
CLEAN PAPER MAKING TECHNIQUES for the 21st CENTURY
Thursday, April 10, 7:00 p.m. --- through Sunday, April 13, 1:00 p.m.
(plus field trips before and after)
at the Radisson Inn Conference Center, Green Bay, Wisconsin
The conference will bring together citizens, civic leaders, labor leaders, elected officials, government agency representatives, Native Americans, environmentalists, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and industry representatives from pulp and paper mill communities around the continent, to learn about exciting, state-of-the-art technologies which promise to solve many of the pollution and other environmental problems associated with the industry.
These techniques are often more cost-effective than current methods --- and would help sustain the paper industry and workers' jobs in the years to come.
Green Bay is the perfect location --- Northeast Wisconsin has the highest concentration of paper mills in the world.
More than 40 world class speakers are expected, including Swedish, Canadian and U.S. paper industry leaders with experience using these techniques, as well as university researchers, government agency experts, public policy experts, Native American leaders, a labor union leader, and representatives of businesses which use or market large amounts of paper. A White House environmental spokeswoman will be a featured luncheon speaker. The conference will end with workshops on how citizens can help promote these new technologies.
Presentations will be in layman's terms, to the extent possible, with many handouts and bibliographies for those who want more details. Information tables and exhibits are also planned, to share information from technology vendors, researchers, agencies and citizen groups.
