Jim Wise's organizing work,
continued:
rewrite.
As co-chair of the Mining
Issue, the immediate future holds celebrations. In the
long-run, we shall keep organized and stay alert.
Forest
Fragmentation is drawing more of my attention. As the
use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) expands, their damage to
the public lands, especially in Northern Wisconsin, grows.
The three biggest promoters of this new recreation are Wisconsin
DNR, Department of Tourism, and the ATV industries. The
citizens of Presque Isle township in Vilas County voted 10-1 NOT
to allow ATV trails in their township, and now there is a
non-binding county referendum set for February 14 that asks the
question: Do you favor allowing the operation of All Terrain
Vehicles on County-owned and County Forest Lands in Vilas County?
